This is a true gem of a trail that offers great views and close proximity to Pullman, WA. The perfect versatile trail for a light hack, conditioning ride or just going out for a nice afternoon stroll with a buddy.
Located just outside of Colfax of of highway 26, this trail offers sandy footing along an old railway bed. The views of tree tunnels, towering rock faces and the Palouse river, offer a relaxing and beautiful ride. Starting from the parking area, there are two cattle gates that can be opened from horseback along the way, and the trail is wide enough for two abreast riding.
There is no rough terrain or obstacles to worry about, besides one very wide bridge that was no trouble at all to cross. The trail meanders along until you dead end at a small vista point looking out onto the Palouse river and an old stone archway/bridge (which was quite beautiful!). Just turn around and enjoy the trail a second time as you head back to the trailer.
We encountered one couple with a dog, close to the parking area, on the sunny Sunday afternoon we explored the Colfax Trail, but they were the exception to the absolute privacy and solitude of this place. I cannot say enough good things about this trail and it is really one of those must go places.

Excited on the way out...

Tired on the way back.

Starlight and Goose had so much fun!

Parking area- We had a 3 horse bumper pull. Be ready to backup! you can see the parking area before committing to it and it may be possible to park before going all the way to the trailhead.
