Great White Pine (Summer 2019)

47.010572, -116.678499

Be aware on: minimal parking, campers, hikers, HWY crossing and dirt bikes

Great White Pine is one of the most beautiful trail systems in the Palouse area. Parking is short but trailers, especially small ones, can fit along the entrance to the campground. The trails off of the campground are well marked, affording several loops and choices. The entrance to the picnic area has several stumps that make excellent mounting blocks.

Heading through the picnic area and across the bridge will lead you back to the highway (be careful crossing) across which is a beautiful moss covered forest. This trail will wind its way up the mountain offering a challenging uphill climb, finally summitting at a wide old logging road. This road continues north, up the mountain and is a great ride, the path is clear and acceptable to trot and canter on. I did not ride south on this road, but the map shows that it potentially connects to Meadow creek Rd./FR 328.

Off of the camping area, there are several trails that lead up the mountain and meet at a crossroads, making excellent loops for riding. all of the trails are moderately steep and narrow but are not super challenging. I enjoyed these trails the most with a couple riding buddies, a sunny afternoon and some beer for the ride.
